Subject:  CAUL Meeting travel 4,6 March 2001 - Sydney-Bathurst flight confirmations required

To CAUL Members,
In order to confirm bookings with Hazelton, I need to know passengers' names by 4 February 2001.

Flight details are as follows:

Sunday 4 March Sydney to Bathurst 19.30 (scheduled flight, with larger aircraft arranged) Fare, including taxes, one way, is $120.45.  I shall book and pay for all passengers and provide a passenger list directly to Hazelton.

Tuesday 6 March Bathurst to Sydney 16:15 (charter, larger aircraft not available on the scheduled flight) - total charter cost is $4235 (ie $4235/23 pp for 23 travellers).  I shall book and pay.

23 CAUL members are flying (according to your feedback to date).

I will invoice each of the following 23 passengers' institutions for the total cost of $(4235/23 + 120.45).  I shall use this as the confirmed list. [List updated 21 February]

Subject: Re: CAUL Meeting 2001/1 - CSU @ Bathurst - Monday 5th - Tuesday 6th March     2001

To CAUL Members,
as it looks like the Canberrans and Wollongongian will probably drive, there will be up to a maximum of 34 CAUL members travelling, and a 19-seater plane scheduled (latest news is that they are not flying 36ers as previously noted). So I shall go ahead and arrange a charter flight.  Enquiries last week indicated that if more than 24 travel, then the cost per passenger of the charter will be less than the standard economy fare. The charter plane is a 36-seat Saab.

I shall assume that you will all take advantage of the charter flights unless you tell me otherwise.

Flight details (scheduled flights) for Hazelton Airlines:  [return economy airfare = $302 + gst $30.20]
Sydney to Bathurst      Sunday          1930-2010 Also Sunday morning flights
Bathurst to Sydney      Tuesday         1715-1800 Also Wednesday morning flights

(note: only 36 seater planes, so I will look at charter options - if you would not expect to be travelling by plane at roughly these times, please let me know.)

The following information is provided by Margaret Macpherson.

Ground Transport to/from Airport

Taxi is the only normal service.
However, should a bevy of you advise arrival/departure by plane we can arrange for a University bus.

For those intending to drive,
Sydney          3 hours (210k)
Canberra        3.5 hours (300k)
Newcastle       4.5 hours (guess)
Wollongong      4 hours

I’d suggest a break somewhere in the Blue Mountains – especially now that it has been declared a world heritage park. The Three Sisters at Echo Point, Katoomba are justly famous but overrun with tourists, especially at weekends. Other grand views en route from Sydney are:

Wentworth Falls: Wentworth Falls (turn left down Falls Road)
Blackheath: Evans Lookout (turn right before Blackheath: well signposted)
Govett’s Leap (turn right at Blackheath)
And the drive down from Mt Victoria to Hartley.

Available adjacent to the Centre for Professional Development where meetings and accommodation will be located.

Attached are some accommodation ideas – all checked out by one of my staff.
I’d suggest in order: CSU

Please make your own bookings – form for use at CSU included.

We can provide details of many other motels and B&Bs should further information be needed.

Early March is likely to be warm and dry, with thunderstorms possible.
The evenings can be cool – so a jacket of some sort is sensible.
The Macquarie Valley is beautiful at present after a cool and wet spring. The pastures are shading to gold right now, so by March the general impression could be somewhat parched.
